Washington workers and recent retirees can now view their contributions to the WA Cares Fund, a program designed to expand access to long-term care benefits. Annual statements showing contribution history are now available through newly created benefits accounts.
Most workers have been contributing to WA Cares and earning long-term care benefits since July 2023. Applications to access benefits will open in mid-May, with benefits becoming available in July.
“This is an exciting step as the benefits launch of WA Cares nears,” said Cami Feek, commissioner of the Washington State Employment Security Department. “Workers now have the opportunity to check their progress toward the program’s contribution requirement, which they’ll need to meet in order to qualify for benefits in the future.”
Workers earn WA Cares benefits by contributing 0.58% of each paycheck. Anyone who has contributed to the fund can create an online account to view their annual statement.
To access their statement, workers must create a WA Cares benefits account through the SecureAccess Washington system, where they will verify their identity and set up login credentials. Users may also designate an authorized representative to help manage their account.
This year’s statement reflects contributions made between July 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2025. Each year in which a worker contributes for at least 500 hours counts toward the program’s contribution requirement for accessing benefits.
Annual statements are intended to help workers track their progress toward eligibility. They are separate from formal benefit determination letters, which confirm whether applicants have met contribution requirements.
“As workers approach retirement, they should keep in mind the WA Cares benefits they’ve earned,” said WA Cares Fund Director Ben Veghte. “Annual statements are a useful tool for anyone planning for their future long-term care needs.”
To receive benefits, applicants must meet both contribution and care needs requirements. Even workers or recent retirees who have contributed for part of a year may qualify, depending on eligibility pathways.
Applicants will submit a short application through their WA Cares account. Assistance is available by phone at 844-CARE4WA for those who need help applying.
Once an application is submitted, WA Cares will review contribution history to determine eligibility. Applicants who qualify will then meet with a WA Cares representative to assess care needs, including assistance with daily activities such as bathing, eating, managing medications and mobility.
Eligible beneficiaries may access up to $36,500 for covered services and supports.
