Snohomish County is asking for public comment on a draft plan that proposes using about $5.5 million in federal grant funds for affordable housing and community development projects.

The draft housing and community development plan is here. It will primarily benefit low- and moderate-income residents, according to a March 26 news release from the county Human Services department.

A virtual public hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9. Those interested can join through this link. People can also call 1-253-205-0468. The meeting ID is 891 6930 5516, and the passcode is 307650.

The County will accept comments until 4 p.m. Friday, April 24. Comments are accepted by email at [email protected] or by mail at Snohomish County Human Services Department, Housing & Community Services Division — M/S 305, 3000 Rockefeller Ave. Everett, WA 98201.

Those who need more information, a reasonable accommodation or a foreign language interpreter can call 425-388-3264 or email [email protected].

The proposed projects outlined in the draft plan will help “maintain and expand affordable housing options for all individuals and families,” according to the news release.

The draft plan will also help people experiencing homelessness, seniors, domestic violence victims and people with disabilities through public facilities and infrastructure improvements and home repair programs, among other services.

A technical advisory committee and policy advisory board made the funding recommendations. Cities, towns, nonprofits and public agencies sponsored the projects selected for funding.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires the draft plan for receipt of grant funding from the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships and Emergency Solutions Grant programs.
