A hot day on the track led to some fast times and high marks during the first day of the WIAA 2A/3A/4A State Track & Field Championships on Thursday, with Meadowdale junior Jaklye Williams leading the way for 15 Edmonds School District student athletes competing.
Williams took home third place in the 3A boys triple jump event with a leap of 44 feet, 10.50 inches. Williams was only bested in the state competition by two seniors, Carmelo Roper of Timberline, who placed second, and event champion Joseph Hilton of Central Valley.

Meadowdale senior Zoe Grant also earned a podium finish during Thursday’s competition, placing in a tie for sixth place in the 3A girls high jump event with a mark of 5-2, matching her career best.
Other local athletes who competed in final events on Thursday included Lynnwood senior Ena Dodik, placing 15th in the 3A girls shot put, and Edmonds-Woodway junior Ava Van Horn, finishing 16th in the 3A girls high jump.

Earning spots in event finals with their efforts in preliminary races on Thursday were Mountlake Terrace senior Brynlee Dubiel in the 3A girls 100-meter hurdles (finals are set for Friday morning) and Mountlake Terrace senior Allison Mervin in the 3A girls 100-meter dash (finals on Saturday morning).
The E-W team of Isabella Offerman, Rayna Halloran, Brooklyn Maxey and Aliah Karl finished third in the preliminary races of the 3A girls 4×400-meter relay and will run in the event final late Saturday afternoon, one of the final races during the three-day meet.

Halloran and Karl also combined with Warrior teammates Jane Maceli and Kayla French to earn an eighth-place finish in the 3A girls 4×200-meter relay preliminaries on Thursday, securing a spot in the event finals Saturday morning.
Others who were in action at the state meet on Thursday were Terrace sophomore Haruna DiPippo (15th in the 3A girls 100-meter dash preliminaries), Lynnwood junior Nabie Sumah (30th in the 3A boys 100-meter dash preliminaries) and Meadowdale senior Edward Misomali (33rd in the 3A boys 100-meter dash preliminaries).
