The Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee will host the 33rd annual Nubian Jam from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. The free event celebrates African American heritage and culture through music, food, art and community activities.
The festival will feature live entertainment, a DJ, an open mic competition, a fashion showcase, food vendors, a marketplace of Black-owned businesses, children’s activities and a Black history exhibit. Community organizations also will provide information on local services, education and health resources.
The event also will recognize Black Snohomish County high school graduates and educators during a special ceremony sponsored by the committee.
“Simply put, the Nubian Jam is a celebration,” Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee President DanVonique Bletson-Reed said. “It’s a celebration of who we are as Black people. The event is a place where we can be free, let our hair down and express ourselves.”
Bletson-Reed said the event is about more than entertainment.
“Nubian Jam is a space where culture, music and community come alive,” she said. “It is an opportunity to celebrate heritage, support local businesses, recognize young people and bring the community together in a welcoming environment.”
Parking will be available on the lower level of Forest Park, with shuttle service provided for those who park off-site.
