Yes, I want to support My MLTnews!Your Local Library Has Your Summer Covered
I took the past week off from my full-time job, and if anything proves I contain multitudes, it’s how I spent my time: I read the first book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, a hilarious, action-packed sci-fi fantasy, then spent several evenings rewatching the 1996 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. The two stories couldn’t be more different, but they both provided hours of entertainment. If you want to add Dungeon Crawler Carl to your own summer reading pile, here’s a fun fact: Author Matt Dinniman is Washington-based and wrote much of the series in coffee shops around Gig Harbor.
I love summer because it offers enough downtime for me to read at least a few new books on the beach or curled up in the AC when it’s too hot outside. Our local libraries make it easy to find new options, too. Sno-Isle Libraries’ Summer Reading program is in full swing, and it’s a fun activity for everyone, not just the kids. Read (or listen) to a book for 10 hours between June 1 and Aug. 31, and you can earn a prize: a free book and sticker for kids and teens, or a tote bag for adults (while supplies last).
Whether you’re spending the week with a good book or looking for your next outing, we’ve got you covered. Come back every Monday for more outing ideas and explore the community resources at the bottom of this column if you’re looking for ways to give back or if you need support. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for fresh posts and weekend reminders.
