Construction on the City of Mountlake Terrace’s Westside Water Main Improvements Phase II and Overlay project is expected to begin this week and continue through mid-December.
Contractor Eadon Prairie Construction LLC will work along 226th Place Southwest and 228th Street Southwest between 70th Avenue West and 66th Avenue West. Construction is scheduled for 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The project includes replacing aging water lines with earthquake-resistant ductile iron pipe, upgrading water meters, replacing sewer laterals, installing a new pressure-reducing valve and repairing curbs, gutters, sidewalks and pavement.
Residents in the construction zone should expect lane closures, alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers and occasional full road closures. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained, and detour signs will be posted in advance of closures.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation with these unavoidable inconveniences, which may include temporary traffic and parking restrictions, sidewalk or driveway access limitation, temporary road closure with local access only during daytime, when work is being performed at your area and/in front of your property,” says Public Works Deputy Director Aparna Khanal. “There will be brief water shut-offs once work affecting your connection is underway.”
Residents will receive notices at least 24 hours in advance directly from the contractor regarding driveway access or water shut-offs to their property, according to a City press release. Scheduled water shut-offs will occur between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to connect the existing system to the new system and transfer existing service connections to the new system.
The water main being replaced was installed in 1962 and is nearing the end of its service life. City officials said the project is intended to improve system reliability and reduce the need for emergency repairs.
