Yes, I want to support My MLTnews!David Carlos on June 25 began taking weekly photographs via drone to capture the progress of the fish and wildlife restoration project at Ballinger Park.
And here’s the latest video:
The $5.5 million project aims to transform Ballinger Park into a natural area with wetlands, riparian corridors, natural vegetation, habitat for birds, fish, turtles and amphibians — and hopefully someday to support salmon runs.
A partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Mountlake Terrace, the project includes planting of more than 2,000 native trees and shrubs, redirecting Hall Creek to a new, more-stable channel, and constructing boardwalks, trails and footpaths.
You can read more about the project here.
Our thanks to City of Mountlake Terrace Stormwater Program Manager Laura Reed for captioning the photos.

We are so excited to have this park open again and enjoy the upgrades! Any update on when it may be fully open again? It looks as though they are getting close to reopening it with the signs being installed and the mowing of the field. As an Edmonds resident living in close proximity to this park in Lake Ballinger, it would be wonderful to have this (these) stories about the progress and opening of the park also be included on MyEdmonds for those of us who will directly benefit as neighbors. Thank you to all involved for this incredible work!
The city asked us to post this response: “The current closures will be in place through spring. We’ll update the timeline as the work progresses.”
Would be nice to have the police blotter weekly and written like it used to be. Is city sending it over to be published here?
Mountlake Terrace PD recently shifted to electronically supplying police report summaries, which is a practice that has been in place for several years for the media in Lynnwood and Edmonds. The reports are shorter, but we are able to follow up on anything as necessary. Prior to this change, we had to physically visit the police department and look through dozens of individual case reports — a very time-consuming process. — Teresa Wippel
Thank-you for your quick reply! I can’t believe that you/your staff would have to do all that! We’ve been told that code enforcement info is “also being sent over to you too”. Is that correct?
We do receive code enforcement reports but don’t consider those part of the police blotter.
