Yes, I want to support My MLTnews!Comfort in Food & Turning Toward What We Can Control
Sometimes the desire to stay informed can be at odds with the desire to find peace and contentment. With today’s dizzying news cycle, that tension is especially real. As someone who struggles with anxiety, I have to remind myself to step back and focus on what I can control: how I show up for my community, how I support my neighbors, how I give back, and how I stay engaged without burning myself out.
One meaningful way to show up locally is to look for volunteer opportunities and to be intentional about supporting locally owned businesses — such as the many culturally diverse restaurants owned and operated by our neighbors. Exploring new cuisines close to home is a simple way to build curiosity, connection and appreciation for the diversity that makes our communities and our world more vibrant. It’s also especially fun to do with kids. A more loving world starts with curiosity and openness, and food is a great way to broaden one’s worldview.
Do you have a favorite local restaurant? Please share your favorite local, family-friendly cuisine from a different culture in the comments.
