Last week, we hosted two news cafes as part of Local News Day, a national effort to recognize the important role that local news plays in communities across the U.S. I sincerely appreciated the conversations we had with readers who stopped by our events, along with the proclamations issued by our three local governments: Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.

Among the takeaways we heard from those attending: In addition to deep dives into issues that matter, they’d like more coverage of good news in our communities and helpful advice they can use, like tips for identifying scams.

As part of Local News Day, we launched our Spring Into Action for Local News fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by April 30, which will be matched by community donors who asked to remain anonymous. So far we have raised nearly $2,500 — can you chip in today to support our work?

There are two easy ways to participate: text localnews to 50155 or visit our online donation page here.

Please consider supporting us at a level that reflects how much you value our local news coverage. All donations are 100% tax deductible, as allowed by law. Our federal tax ID # is 88-3919841.

You can donate here or you can mail a check to:
