Plein Air in Edmonds – Cityscapes
Sunday, June 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Graphite Arts Center, 202 Main St., Edmonds
Cost: $60
Ages: 18+
Level: All levels
Instructor: Ray Munger
“Plein air” is the practice of creating art outdoors rather than in a studio. Participants will explore downtown Edmonds and capture its natural beauty and atmosphere through various drawing techniques.
The June 28 session will be held in downtown Edmonds with an opportunity for capturing cityscapes.
Participants should be able to walk to the location and back to Graphite. It will be about half a mile each way and a 10- to 15-minute walk.
Because the class will be held mostly outdoors, participants should dress for the weather and be prepared for changing conditions.
The class will focus on sketching, composition and perspective, helping participants to improve their observation skills and ability to capture a scene in the moment.
Munger will share his own sketchbook and bring a Pochade box with watercolors to demonstrate techniques. He will also share tips for creating artwork in the field.
Participants are responsible for bringing their own supplies (list below).
Munger has been drawing and painting for decades. He studied art, worked and taught classes at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle and has shown art locally.
For the past several years he has been focusing on plein air drawing and painting while maintaining a daily sketchbook practice.
Supply list (supplies not included): Paper and pen or pencil; paper or sketchbook; clipboard; sun hat; and water bottle.
Optional supplies: Umbrella for shade; portable chair or stool; snack, portable easel; and any paints participants may wish to use (acrylic, oil, watercolors).

Music will spill from every corner of downtown as PorchFest Edmonds returns. The annual event transforms porches, patios and storefronts into performance spots showcasing the region’s artistic talent.
Designed as a free, community‑driven celebration, PorchFest Edmonds highlights the power of the arts to bring people together. This year’s festival features an eclectic mix of genres performed by both seasoned and emerging musicians.
“PorchFest Edmonds is about much more than music. It’s an opportunity for neighbors to gather, discover local artists, support local businesses and strengthen the connections that make our community special,” said Liz Morgan, president of PorchFest Edmonds.

“For one day, front porches become stages, streets become gathering places, and people who may never have met find themselves sharing an experience together. That’s the real impact of PorchFest. We’re building community through the arts, one porch at a time.”
Businesses and individuals can still sign on as sponsors to help keep PorchFest free and thriving.
