The long-awaited Edmonds New Start Center will open before the end of this month.

Snohomish County and YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish will host an opening celebration and community showcase Monday, June 29, at 22127 Hwy 99. A program and ribbon cutting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Public tours and a resource fair will start at 12:30 p.m. and run until 2:30 p.m.

The following will speak at the event: County Executive Dave Somers; County Councilmember Strom Peterson; County Human Services Director Mary Jane Brell Vujovic; Maria Chavez-Wilcox, CEO of YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish; and Edmonds Mayor Mike Rosen.

The New Start Center is a bridge housing facility for people experiencing homelessness. The center will provide case management, behavioral health support and employment assistance, among other wraparound services.

YWCA will operate the 45-unit facility with 24/7 on-site staffing. The goal is to transition individuals from homelessness to stable housing.

At the event, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facility, meet program staff and learn more about the center.

The Edmonds New Start Center used to be America’s Best Value Inn. This and the Everett New Start Center have a combined budget of about $37 million. Federal American Rescue Plan Act funds and money collected from the county’s 0.1% affordable housing sales tax are paying for them.

“This site will help YWCA meet a critical need in our community,” said Kresha Green, regional director of YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish, at a May 14 event.

The My Neighborhood News Group reported in January that the County Council unanimously approved moving forward with a contract for the facilities that outlines a management plan, code of conduct, referral and eligibility, as well as safety and security.
