Brier Police Chief Alexander Hawley has graduated from the School of Police Staff & Command (SPSC) at the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety in November 2025, according to a City of Brier news release. Hawley completed the 22-week program, held in Evanston, Illinois, and he was among the 17 students in the SPSC class.

Hawley was appointed interim chief on July 24, 2023. He assumed the role permanently on July 24, 2024, succeeding former Chief Nick Almquist. Prior to joining the Brier Police Department, Hawley served at the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Hawley told My MLT News that he is also set to receive a Master of Science in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego next week.

The SPSC program, established in 1983, has graduated more than 25,000 students from agencies across the U.S. and internationally, according to the news release. It offers upper-level college instruction in 27 core curriculum blocks, covering leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, as well as budgeting and resource allocation.

Students complete written examinations, projects, presentations, quizzes and a staff study paper. Upon graduation, students may receive up to six undergraduate credit hours from Northwestern University.
