The demolition of College Place Elementary in Lynnwood started Tuesday, July 21, as two excavators chewed through two classroom buildings on the south side of campus. This phase will take about seven weeks to complete before construction of the new building begins. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new campus was held in June.
Most of the classrooms and the main office are empty except for debris and a few construction tools scattered around. The auditorium was off-limits since workers dressed in full personal-protection equipment are abating the building before it can be demolished.
In 2024, voters approved the Edmonds School District’s $594 million bond measure with more than 64% support. The bond allocates an estimated $210 million to replace College Place Elementary and College Place Middle schools on their current Lynnwood campus as part of the District’s plan to move sixth grade to middle school and improve educational outcomes.
Cornerstone GCI is the general contractor that is building the College Place Place Elementary and College Place Middle School campuses.
