The Interstate 5 express lanes in Seattle will close early, at 9 p.m. each night from Monday, June 8, through Friday morning, June 12, to replace worn concrete panels.

The express lanes return to regular operating hours Monday, June 8, following a weekend-long closure of the northbound I-5 mainline to temporarily reopen all lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge. Until July 10, the express lanes will be open southbound during the morning, northbound in the afternoon/evening. Typically, they close from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Beginning Friday night, July 10, the express lanes will revert to northbound-only 24 hours a day as Revive I-5 work resumes, reducing the northbound I-5 Ship Canal bridge to two lanes until the end of 2026.

From July 8-12, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will replace concrete panels on the express lanes between mileposts 165 and 173.

Over the next two months, crews will replace 89 concrete panels, many of which measure 12 feet by 15 feet, along the I-5 corridor in Seattle and Shoreline. This work is part of a regional pavement repair project that will improve the driving surface in more than 70 locations in King, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties.

Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT mobile app and the real-time travel map.
