South Snohomish County Indivisible (SSCI) is hosting a free voting education event at 7 p.m. Monday, July 20 at Edmonds College Black Box Theatre in conjunction with Good Trouble Lives On: Weekend of Action. The public is invited.
The theme of the weekend — Teach, Reach and Preach — reflects a longstanding tradition of civic engagement rooted in the Civil Rights Movement, SSCI said in a news release.
From the news release:
“The July 20 event will provide an opportunity to learn about the importance of carrying on the voting rights movement. Speakers from the 1964 civil rights movement from Birmingham, Alabama will provide a first-hand account of their experiences and the work they are doing to enlist young people to exercise their right to vote. Snohomish County Auditor Garth Fell will talk about local election integrity. Edmonds Resistance Singers will share songs of protest. A major feature of the evening will be the showing of the documentary Good Trouble about the life and legacy of civil rights icon John Lewis, sponsored by Lift Every Voice Legacy.
“In addition to the July 20 event, SSCI is leading a canvassing and information distribution effort on Saturday, July 18 to spread the word about the importance of voting. On Sunday, July 19 local churches such as Edmonds United Methodist will be focused on the importance of voting rights, and inspiring community members in civic engagement.”
The Edmonds College Black Box Theatre is located at 20310 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
