Rod Dembowski, chair of King County’s Budget and Fiscal Management committee, will announce details of how funds from the King County parks levy will be used to advance plans for the Interurban Trail between King and Snohomish Counties at 1 p.m. on May 29.

That’s according to a news release from North Sound Bicycle Advocates, a 501(c)3 organization advocating for trail and road improvements for cyclists in North King and South Snohomish counties.

Dembowski visited the site of a proposed crossing of State Route 104 in 2024 and embraced the idea of building a safer crossing for trail users. Currently, bike riders, walkers and others must take a detour via North 200th and Meridian in Shoreline and cross the four-lane state highway. On Meridian, which becomes 76th Avenue West in Edmonds, there is a 12% grade, making the route challenging for all but the most experienced cyclists and virtually impassable for those in wheelchairs.

Supporters of the improved trail crossing will be in attendance May 29 at Echo Lake Park, where the current trail ends at North 200th adjacent to the Aurora Village Transit Center. Dembowski will provide additional details on how levy funds will be spent.

A levy raising $1.4 billion was approved by King County voters in an August 2025 election. A portion of those funds is earmarked for trails.
