A number of local athletes competed on the famed grounds of Hayward Field at the University of Oregon earlier this month at the 2026 Nike Outdoor Nationals, one of the top meets for track and field competitors each summer.

Bringing home medals from the prestigious event were Mountlake Terrace High School 2026 graduate Allison Mervin, Meadowdale senior-to-be Jakyle Williams and a team from Edmonds-Woodway High School that also won a WIAA state medal last month.

Mervin placed fourth at the Nike Nationals in the Women’s Under-20 Championship Division long jump with a leap of 18-4.5, while Williams brought home an eighth place in the Men’s Under-20 Championship Division triple jump with a mark of 44-9.5.

The team of Aliah Karl, Isabella Offerman, Rayna Halloran and Brooklyn Maxey reached the podium of the Nike Nationals with an eighth-place finish in the Women’s Under-20 Championship Division 4×400 meter relay. The foursome recently placed sixth in the 3A classification of the 4×400 at the WIAA state meet.

“To step onto the podium at Hayward Field is an absolute testament to our work ethic, chemistry and resilience,” team captain Aliah Karl said. ”Earning an All-American title at a premier national meet has been a goal of mine since freshman year, and I was finally able to accomplish it with the help of my friends/teammates and the support of my coaches.”

Karl, a 2026 E-W graduate, ran the anchor leg of the team’s 4×400 meter relay in addition to running the anchor of a women’s 4×800 meter relay foursome that included Ravenna Tysland, Hazel Zachey and Taylor Gaschk, teammates on the Ballinger Track Club and fellow E-W Warriors. That quartet placed 23rd at the national meet in Eugene.

Tysland and Zachey are seniors-to-be while Gaschk will be a sophomore at E-W this fall.

Karl also competed in the Women’s Under-20 Championship Division 400-meter dash in Eugene, placing 62nd.

Karl recently signed a letter of intent to attend Eastern Washington University and will compete with the Eagles’ track team beginning this fall.

Other local finishes at the Nike Outdoor Nationals included Mervin (a Boise State University commit) taking 24th in the Women’s Under-20 triple jump and 55th in the Women’s Under-20 100-meter dash; and 2026 MTHS grad Brynlee Dubiel (a University of Hawaii commit) placing 16th in the Women’s Under-20 400-meter hurdles and 45th in the Women’s Under-20 100-meter hurdles.
