No one was injured in an early morning fire that caused heavy fire and smoke damage to a home in Mountlake Terrace’s Lake Ballinger neighborhood Monday.
According to South County Fire spokesperson Brian Clark, fire crews were called to the two-story home — located in the 7100 block of 230th Street Southwest — just after 5 a.m. Monday.
When crews arrived, they found the lower-level garage and living area on fire, Clark said. “Four people inside had safely evacuated through the back of the house before firefighters arrived,” he said. “One of the occupants indicated they were alerted to the emergency after smelling smoke. There are no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.”
Crews were able to extinguish the fire about 10 minutes after arriving. The South County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
“This incident is an important reminder that fires often happen while people are sleeping,” Clark said. “Please make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside every sleeping area.”
