It’s been a wild couple of months for the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors as the team struggled down the stretch, earning just one victory in their final eight matches of the regular season – but then turning their fortunes around in the postseason. The team chalked up four wins in five playoff games — all on the road — before heading into a state tournament clash with the Silas Rams on Friday.
Earning that fifth postseason win ended up proving too much for the road-weary Warriors as the Rams blanked E-W 3-0 in a WIAA 3A State Boys Soccer Tournament Round 2 matchup played at Curtis High School’s Viking Stadium in University Place.

With the loss, the Warriors saw their 2026 season come to an end with an overall record of 11-11-0, 4-2-0 in the postseason playoffs.
Silas, seeded No. 3 in the 3A State tournament and losers of just two matches all season, were never secure in getting the tourney win over No. 19 seed Edmonds-Woodway on Friday until two late goals gave the Rams some breathing room on their way to the victory.
Silas junior Caden Grant opened the scoring with a goal in the 34th minute. Grant laid down a perfectly placed shot from 25 yards out that rolled into the lower left corner of the goal past a diving E-W goalkeeper Daniel Abraham.

Down 1-0, E-W Coach Jason Hanson knew it would take just one special shot to knot the game up again and give his Warriors a chance at a big state tourney upset.
“We brought the offense to them,” Hanson said. “We were just a little unlucky on a couple of finishes. But we had the ball in front of their goal several times.”
“But that’s the way soccer goes,” he said. “Sometimes you just got to be lucky once in a while.”
While being able to penetrate into the Rams’ half of the field on numerous occasions, the Warriors couldn’t get off a strong shot on goal to test Silas senior goalkeeper Aiden Zawilski, who ended up making four saves in the game.

Zawilski’s toughest save of the night came in the 60th minute off a blast from Warrior sophomore Brian Diaz from 25 yards out. But the shot was straight at Zawilski, who didn’t have to move to catch the shot and turn away the E-W threat.
Abraham made five saves for the Warriors on Friday, including two diving stops of shots by Silas senior Yusuf Mousa, one in the 19th minute and one in the 50th minute.
Late in the match and with time ticking away, the Warriors changed their on-the-field formation, aggressively pushing for a tying goal. But instead of getting on the scoreboard, the Warriors yielded two late goals to the Rams.

Silas junior Bassam Jamal scored with a header from inside the 6-yard-box in the 72nd minute. Then Silas senior Will Bourbannais tallied to finish off a counterattack two minutes into second-half extra time to put the game away for the Rams.
The loss to Silas ended the season for the E-W team, which Hanson called “an amazing group of kids.”
“(They) had every reason to kind of give up,” Hanson said. “If you were to look at the standings, I think we lost, maybe, seven of our last eight in the regular season. And to their credit, they just really came together and just had a resolute determination to turn things around.”

Edmonds-Woodway opened its postseason run with road victories over higher-seeded teams in the District 1 3A tourney — Ferndale and Mount Vernon. Then after splitting a pair of games at Shoreline Stadium, the Warriors began the 3A state tournament with a victory over Auburn Mountainview in a match played at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
“They really became road warriors,” Hanson said of his squad.
After congratulating the team for a strong finish to a testing season, Hanson took a moment to think ahead to 2027.

“We, in particular, have several underclassmen that are really going to be heavy lifters for the team looking forward,” Hanson said. “So I’m really optimistic for next year.”
