With smiles, tears and a big haul of medals, the 2026 2A/3A/4A State Track & Field Championships in Tacoma came to an end on Saturday for competitors from the Edmonds School District and around the state.
Mountlake Terrace’s Allison Mervin earned two podium finishes on Saturday, one of which was just short of a state title. The senior placed second in the 3A girls triple jump with a leap of 39-1 3/4, just an inch-and-a-quarter behind event winner Aaliyah Khan of Mercer Island.
On Friday, Khan and Mervin had finished first and second respectively in the 3A girls long jump competition.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, Mervin captured the seventh-place medal in the 3A girls 100-meter dash, bringing her medal total to three during this year’s state meet.
Mountlake Terrace’s Brynlee Dubiel also brought home a runner-up medal from Saturday’s state competition with a second place finish in the 3A girls 300-meter hurdles. The medal was the second of the meet for Dubiel after placing third in the 3A girls 100-meter hurdles on Friday.

Combined, Mervin and Dubiel won 13 state championship medals during their four years representing Terrace track at the WIAA state meet. Both shed a few tears following their final events on Saturday, saying that they were for just missing out on individual state titles and for seeing their high school track careers come to an end.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Aliah Karl found her way to the medal podium three times on Saturday. Karl won an individual sixth-place medal in the 3A girls 800-meter run. She also earned two more sixth-place medals as part of the E-W 3A girls 4×200-meter relay team with Jane Miceli, Rayna Halloran and Kayla French and as a member of the Warrior 3A girls 4×400-meter relay team with Halloran, Isabella Offerman and Brooklyn Maxey.

Mountlake Terrace’s Sierra Swan earned a seventh-place medal on Saturday with her finish in the 3A girls javelin throw. Swan placed fifth in the event last year and 20th in 2024.
Mountlake Terrace junior Reilly Brookhard, the only male Edmonds School District competitor left in action on day three of the state meet, placed 14th in the 3A boys 3200- meter run.

In team scoring, the Terrace girls placed fourth in the 3A girls final standings, the best result for an Edmonds School District team, girls or boys, since the Hawks finished in third place in 2016.
