The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is hosting an evening of discussion about climate plans and action Monday, July 13 during a public event, “Snohomish County — Moving From Climate Plans to Regional Action,” as part of PNW Climate Week.
The event will bring together elected officials, climate practitioners, tribal and community partners and residents to explore how climate efforts across Snohomish County and the Puget Sound region can be better aligned to accelerate implementation and reduce climate pollution.
According to a County news release, the evening will begin with presentations on the Snohomish Communitywide Climate Resiliency Plan and the region’s Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (Regional CCAP), highlighting how they complement and reinforce local climate plans across Snohomish County. Participants will then hear from local leaders during a moderated roundtable discussion exploring successful climate initiatives, opportunities for collaboration, and the partnerships needed to deliver meaningful results.
The roundtable will be comprised of Ric Ilgenfritz (CEO of Community Transit), Adrew Gobin (director of treaty rights & government affairs with the Tulalip Tribe), Linda Lyshall (executive director of the Snohomish Conservation District), Brenda White (manager of local government and external affairs for Snohomish County PUD) Molly Beeman (energy and environmental sustainability manager for Snohomish County), Janice Greene, (chair of the Snohomish County Future Workforce Alliance) and Christine Cooley (executive director of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency).
Last year, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency led the development of the Regional Comprehensive Climate Action Plan in partnership with local governments, tribes, community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders. The plan identifies practical, high-impact strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that will also create co-benefits in overburdened communities and opportunities for workforce development across King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties and serves as a shared roadmap for regional collaboration. Now, the agency is developing a proposal for how to implement the plan using a coordinated and supported approach across the region.
The discussion will be moderated by Megan Dunn, who serves on both the Snohomish County Council and the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Board of Directors.
“Snohomish County communities are already demonstrating tremendous leadership on climate action,” Dunn said. “This event is an opportunity to learn from one another, strengthen partnerships and identify where regional collaboration can help us move faster and farther. The work ahead is too important for any one jurisdiction to tackle alone.”
The event will conclude with an informal networking reception, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with elected officials, sustainability professionals, advocates and community members working to advance climate solutions throughout the region.
The event is open to anyone interested in the future of climate action in Snohomish County and the Puget Sound region, including local government staff, community organizations, businesses, students, and residents.
