South County Fire’s Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing July 7 on proposals for commissioner election redistricting.
According to a South County Fire news release, four proposals under consideration would update fire commissioner election districts to include the annexation of Edmonds into the Regional Fire Authority (RFA). Edmonds has a liaison to the board until voters have the opportunity to directly elect a commissioner from a newly drawn district that includes all or part of the city.
The RFA is governed by seven fire commissioners — five elected from commissioner districts with roughly the same population and two elected at-large. An independent consultant created four proposals that rebalance population across fire commissioner election districts and give Edmonds residents opportunity for direct representation. A public hearing on the redistricting proposal will take place during the board’s regular meeting July 7, which begins at 7 p.m. The public can attend the meeting in person at South County Fire Headquarters, 12425 Meridian Ave. S, Everett, or participate remotely via Zoom teleconferencing (Meeting ID 861 1281 5239).

Community members are also invited to share feedback on the redistricting proposals during a free open house from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 at the Edmonds Downtown Fire Station, 275 6th Ave. N.
According to South County Fire, commissioner districts are for election purposes only. These districts will not change or impact 911 responses or the delivery of fire and emergency services.
