There’s something I’ve always liked about Easter, even outside of any single tradition: it doesn’t feel like it belongs to just one culture or story. It draws from Christian and Jewish observance and from older belief systems and seasonal rhythms tied to the arrival of spring. The eggs and rabbits (symbols of fertility and renewal) have roots in Persian spring celebrations and older Celtic and Germanic traditions. Today’s Easter traditions traveled across centuries and cultures before Easter became what it is today. And I think that amalgamation of so many traditions and cultures is part of what makes it so beautiful.
For my family, Easter traditionally meant brunch, time with family and colorful egg hunts with kids running across the damp spring grass. I never pictured some parts of that tradition ending until it did. This week, I came across an old photo my oldest son at two years old, dressed in a pink button-down and a clip-on tie, sitting in a folding chair with the energy of a toddler who was fed some of his first bits of candy. He’s 19 now and all three of my teenagers no longer expect an egg hunt or candy-filled Easter baskets. We still do brunch with our extended family, and honestly, getting three busy teenagers to sit down together at the same table feels like its own small miracle.
I miss the egg hunts a little — the colorful outfits I’d dress the kids up in and their absolute glee when they’d find a plastic egg in a bush. Much like the Easter holiday itself, our family traditions may change over time, but what matters most remains.

Listen to Music at Musicology Co. in Edmonds

Learn Tabletop Role-Playing Games, Get Homework Help and More at Sno-Isle Libraries
Sno‑Isle Libraries regularly hosts a variety of free, family friendly events — such as baby and toddler storytimes, book talks, crafts and community gatherings — across its branches and online throughout the year. Find one at the library near you and check out some books to read while you’re there.
Curious preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to the Lynnwood Library every Monday at 2 p.m. for Little Science Lab with Imagine Children’s Museum. Kids can dive into fun, hands-on experiments and discover the wonders of science and math together.
On Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m., drop in to the Lynnwood Library for free Homework Help, where volunteers are available to assist students in grades K-12 with school assignments. No registration is required — just bring the work you’re working on. Assistance is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is a great way for students to get a little extra support after school.
Teens can explore tabletop role-playing games together at the Brier Library on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. No gaming experience needed — the session is designed to be a fun, social gaming experience that introduces players to role-playing game mechanics and group storytelling.

Silver Creek Indoor Play Park
Mondays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Need to get out of the house? Bring young kids to the free Indoor Playpark at Lynnwood’s Silver Creek Family Church to hang out and play. Parents can enjoy some coffee or tea while kids play with the indoor toys.
Join Edmonds Chess Club at Leftcraft Brewery
Mondays from 5-9 p.m. at 519 Main St. in Edmonds

We’re lucky to live in a region with multiple indoor or outdoor heated pools to help us get some recreation in during the dark, rainy months. My family has a membership to the Lynnwood Rec Center and we love attending the open swim sessions for a fun, budget-friendly outing.

Sign up for weekly lessons for kids and adults. Lessons include a 30‑minute instruction period followed by 30 minutes of practice, taught by national‑level coach Ezra Thompson. Learn skills like balance, stopping, and forward and backward skating, with more advanced skills offered in a Level 2 course.
A four-week session costs $120, including open skate time, and there’s also a Sunday drop-in option for $30 that includes a practice session.
