If you think quilts belong only on beds or hanging in antique shops, think again.
The Lynnwood Event Center at The District invites the community to experience Living Colors: Quilts Across the Spectrum, a free art exhibit showcasing how today’s fiber artists are transforming quilting into bold, contemporary works of art. On display through Dec. 11, 2026, the exhibit features more than 30 artists whose work demonstrates the incredible creativity and versatility of the medium.
Presented in partnership with the Contemporary QuiltArt Association (CQA), Living Colors fills the Event Center’s public spaces with 46 vibrant works ranging from abstract geometric designs and breathtaking landscapes to expressive portraits and mixed media pieces, according to the Event Center. Using techniques such as hand dyeing, digital printing, collage, sculptural elements and intricate stitching, these artists challenge traditional ideas of what a quilt can be.
“Today’s quilt artists are continually redefining the art form through bold color, innovative techniques and deeply personal storytelling,” said Carolyn Wagner, Exhibits Chair of CQA. “Living Colors celebrates that evolution. We invite visitors to experience quilting as an inspiring form of contemporary art.”
The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lynnwood Event Center, located at 3711 196th St. S.W. in Lynnwood. Because the Event Center occasionally closes to the public for private events, visitors are encouraged to call 425-778-7155 before arriving to confirm gallery access.
Visitors are also invited to attend a free Meet the Artists Reception on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6-8 p.m., where they’ll have the opportunity to meet participating artists, hear about their creative process, and celebrate the exhibit together. Those interested in attending can RSVP at: www.eventcreate.com/e/meet-the-artists-fall2026
Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a quilting fan or simply looking for a unique and inspiring outing, Living Colors: Quilts Across the Spectrum offers a fresh perspective on one of the world’s oldest art forms and demonstrates why contemporary quilt art continues to captivate audiences of all ages.
