Paul Bannick

The next Author & Speaker Series talk at the Edmonds Waterfront Center will feature award-winning photographer Paul Bannick speaking about his book Woodpecker: A Year in the Life of North American Woodpeckers. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the Waterfront Center, 220 Railroad Ave.

Bannick uses his intimate yet dramatic images, up-to-date science and first-hand narratives to explore the lives of North American Woodpeckers through four seasons including courtship, mating, and nesting in spring; fledging and feeding of young in summer; dispersal and learning independence in fall; and, finally winter movements and survival. His exploration of these impactful birds and their habitats includes the species from the Arctic through southern Mexico, including those of the Caribbean Islands.

Bannick’s startling images reflect the birds’ shared behaviors as well as some surprising exceptions and adaptations. More than just a backdrop, the varied habitats reveal wildly rich stories of their own.

Subtitles and closed captioning will be provided for guests who are deaf and hard of hearing. The EWC also offers assistive listening devices available to check out or connect with your smart phone.

Tickets are $7.50 and available online here. Walk-ins are welcome the night of the event based on available seating.

Sponsored by the Edmonds Waterfront Center, My Neighborhood News Group and the Edmonds Bookshop.
