The Edmonds School District will launch girls flag football as an interscholastic sport beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.
All four comprehensive high schools (Edmonds-Woodway, Lynnwood, Meadowdale and Mountlake Terrace) will offer girls flag football, the District said in an announcement. Schools will field varsity and junior varsity teams based on participation numbers.
Girls flag football will be a winter sport, with practices and competition beginning Nov. 16, 2026, alongside the district’s other winter high school sports. Teams will compete in the Wesco South Division as part of the growing statewide expansion of girls flag football programs. Teams will also have access to qualifying for the District tournament and WIAA State Flag Football Tournament.
Coaching positions will be posted this summer, and additional information regarding registration, eligibility and team participation will be shared with students and families as the season approaches, the District said.
