Edmonds-Woodway defeated Shorewood 3-1

Edmonds-Woodway junior pitcher Declan Crawford allowed just three hits and one run while striking out 10 over seven innings as the Warriors won the Wesco 2A/3A South regular season title with a 3-1 win over the Shorewood Stormrays.

Both teams entered the final game of the regular season tied for first place, each with a 10-1 conference record. Shorewood took the early lead in the top of the third inning when Cole Gillingham led off with a single, moved to second on a Finn Bachler sacrifice and then scored on a Kanata Barber double.

The Warriors answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Cruz Escandon lined a triple down the left-field line with one out in the inning. Trevelyan Podawiltz followed with a single over the head of Shorewood shortstop Calan Sporn, scoring Escandon to tie the game at 1-1. Podawiltz then advanced to second base on a throwing error and was replaced by courtesy runner DJ Karl. Karl went to third base on a passed ball and then scored when Andreas Simonsen grounded out to third base, giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors then added an insurance run when Erik Alsdorf scored on a ball hit by Escandon, providing the final run of the game.

The Warriors finish the season 11-1 in conference and a 16-5 overall record. They will enter the 3A District 1 double-elimination tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play at home against No. 6 seed Stanwood in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, May 9 at 2 p.m. Four teams will advance out of the District tournament and qualify for the state tournament. Shorewood will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and host No. 5 seed Monroe, also on Saturday May 9 at 2 p.m.
