Girls Tennis
Sophomore Maddy Ashe of Edmonds-Woodway finished in second place and is headed to the tennis state championships. She qualified last week for the 12-player District tournament by taking fifth place at the Wesco 3A South tournament. Despite being a lower seed, Ashe rattled off three victories at Snohomish High School on Tuesday in Day 1 of the tournament (see the May 12 sports roundup for individual match results) before losing to Snohomish senior Mak Dauer on Day 2 of the tournament, which was moved to Skagit Valley College on account of the weather.
Lynnwood Royals tennis players senior Ava Barias and junior Adeline Tran finished fifth place in the District doubles tournament. The top four teams qualify for state, however, Barias and Tran are the first alternate team and will therefore go to state if one of the other four teams is unable to go. Barias was also recently named as a WIAA State Athlete of the Week.
