Joining a nationwide May Day Strong protest, a crowd of nearly 100 convened on the corner of 196th Street Southwest and 36th Avenue West in Lynnwood Friday. Organized by Snohomish Indivisible, members of the Edmonds Education Associate and Public School Employees of Washington were also in attendance.

An estimated 1,000 cities participated in the national event.

Edmonds Education Association (EEA) President Andi Nofziger said the EEA attended the protest to voice their support for workers over billionaires and to stand up in support of democracy and their students.

“Education is the cornerstone of democracy and our democracy is in peril right now,” Nofziger said. “Educators need to stand up and make our voices known that we value communities, we value kids, we value healthcare, we value stable housing, we value food security, all the things people need for a happy life.”

Snohomish Indivisible hosts a weekly protest from 5-6:30 p.m. on Fridays outside the Lynnwood Convention Center. Learn more here.
