The City of Mountlake Terrace will host a hybrid Utility Planning Townhall from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Mountlake Terrace City Hall, 23204 58th Ave. W. and online via Zoom.

Public Works Director Gary Schimek will present updates on major capital projects and draft Water and Sewer Comprehensive Plans. The session will include an overview of utility planning, operational costs, water purchasing, wastewater treatment and capital improvement expenses, along with efforts to improve efficiency and manage costs.

“This town hall is to help ratepayers understand how utility rates are set and all the factors involved,” Schimek said. “The general fund does not contribute to utility operations. Utility revenues can only be for utilities. Through this presentation, we will demonstrate how we try our very best to deliver the desired services at the lowest price point.”

Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn about proposed utility rates and the planning process.

The event is open to the public and can be attended in person at City Hall or virtually via Zoom. Meeting ID 881 2746 5792 | Passcode 877840. More information is available on the City’s website.

  1. It would be a very productive use of our time if all of this information was released before the meeting so that we could read digest and research the information when we actually meet. The information at the meeting then does not provide any time for people to think about it and then engage with it.

I would love to see Mountlake Terrace embrace this sort of higher functioning and more transparent and equitable meeting structure
