Nine were injured and all lanes of State Route 524 near Lynnwood were closed overnight following a suspected DUI-related, four-car collision Wednesday night, the Washington State Police (WSP) reported.
At around 10 p.m. Wednesday, WSP responded to a collision on westbound SR 524 near Larch Way, according to a social media post from Trooper Kelsey Harding.
Police arrested a 22-year-old Stanwood man on a suspicion of DUI after he struck two vehicles while attempting to pass heading westbound, police documents said. One of the vehicles, driven by a 17-year-old boy with three juvenile passengers, veered into eastbound traffic before rolling three times and striking a utility pole. The passengers were ages 11, 13 and 15.

After the arrestee was released from the hospital, police booked him into Snohomish County Jail around 4 a.m. Thursday on three counts of first-degree vehicular assault. All lanes in both directions of SR 524 remained closed overnight until around 8 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The drivers and passengers of all three vehicles were seriously injured and hospitalized Wednesday night, including the arrestee and his four passengers and an 18-year-old male driver. A fourth vehicle was struck with debris but the driver was unharmed.
On Thursday afternoon, a WSP spokesperson said the nature of the injuries and condition of those involved were unknown.
