The realities that LGBTQ+ youth face and how a nonprofit’s programs support young people in Snohomish County will be among the topics discussed next month at the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center.
Cocoon House is hosting its quarterly forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at 19509 64th Ave. W. The free event requires registration to ensure ample seating and refreshments. People can register here.
Since 1991, Cocoon House has been serving youth experiencing homelessness and their families. The nonprofit provides a full continuum of care including housing, outreach and prevention, as well as education and employment support.
Cocoon House held its first quarterly forum Feb. 5. The My Neighborhood News Group reported that the forum touched on early intervention and prevention strategies that can help keep youth housed, supported and connected to local resources.
The topic for the June 4 forum is “Understanding LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness: Why It Happens and Why It Matters.”
“LGBTQ+ youth experience homelessness at disproportionately high rates, often due to family rejection, discrimination and lack of support,” the nonprofit said about the upcoming forum in a social media post.
Attendees can expect to engage in a meaningful conversation about how to help create safer and more supportive spaces for youth. They will also have a chance to connect with other community members and learn about ways to get involved.
