“A Prehistoric Stroll…” by Andrew Miller. (Photo courtesy of the artist)

Andrew Miller is the artist behind the new mural A Prehistoric Stroll…, located in the alleyway off Main Street and 5th Avenue in Edmonds. The mural was commissioned by The Wishing Stone.

A Seattle resident whose family has been in Edmonds for nearly 30 years, Miller has worked as a public artist for the past three decades. His work appears in both public and private spaces throughout the Northwest, and he has created more than 100 murals.

Miller is a founding member of the Lake City Mural Project and the Ballard Alliance Public Art Committee.

For this mural, Miller collaborated with property owner Tom Sheehan and The Wishing Stone owner Janet Yoshikawa. According to the artist, the inspiration came from the business’s “Jurassic sensibility,” featuring a raptor in the front window among crystals, gems, stones and jewelry.

“The Stegosaurus seemed like an appropriate fit for the wall,” Miller said. “Her spikes match the floral nature of the surrounding Northwest elements, and the large hummingbirds, pollinators, represent the sustainability of life. I had to add a little Easter egg, of course, with ‘Edmonds Loves You….’”

“I would love to hear from the community about future projects,” Miller added. “I work with both exterior and interior projects, and I’m available to make something happen.”
